Choosing a Metal
the Right Balance
Plan your engagement ring budget
There is no required amount or salary multiple to spend on an engagement ring. Choose a total that feels comfortable for you, then compare the diamond and setting together.
Build your complete ring budget
- Set your total: decide the maximum you want to spend before shortlisting designs.
- Price the complete ring: check whether the displayed price includes the centre stone, setting and selected metal.
- Allow for extras: confirm taxes and any applicable engraving, resizing, delivery or rush charges.
- Compare alternatives: look at different diamond origins, shapes and specifications alongside the settings you like.
- Confirm the order: review the final specifications, total price, production estimate and applicable policies.
Decide what matters most to you
Use the 4Cs guide to compare your shortlist, and consider lab-grown and natural diamonds according to your preferences. Ask to see options within your budget rather than assuming a particular grade or shape guarantees a saving.
Explore engagement ring settings online, compare lab-grown and natural diamonds, or discuss your priorities in the Custom Studio. You can also visit our Toronto or Mississauga showroom.

Diamond Certification….Pros & Cons
Use a laboratory report to check the diamond’s recorded characteristics and origin. A grading report is not a monetary appraisal. Learn how to check diamond reports, then compare the stone itself as well as the document.

The Importance of Shape and Cut
Compare the 4Cs within your budget
Use cut, colour, clarity and carat weight together. Carat is weight rather than visible size, and a grade is only part of the comparison. Decide what matters to you when you view the individual diamonds.
Compare several shapes and weights at current prices. A shape does not guarantee a fixed percentage saving; specifications and availability also matter.
Selecting an Eye-Clean Diamond
Eye-clean describes an appearance without magnification, not a laboratory grade. An SI1 or SI2 grade does not guarantee that inclusions will be invisible. Ask about the viewing conditions and inspect the actual diamond.
Gold vs Platinum
Compare the quoted price of your chosen setting in each available metal. White gold and platinum have different care requirements; confirm maintenance and resizing options for your specific ring.
the Right Balance
Find your own balance
Compare two or three complete ring options within your total budget. Note the differences in appearance, stone origin, measurements, metal and price. Choose the combination you prefer instead of following a prescribed list of grades.
